Note 02 - Desirability Is a Feeling

I grew up thinking desirability was only about aesthetics: beautiful branding, thoughtful photography, good design, the right words.

And while all of those things matter, I no longer think they're what makes something truly desirable.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with founders, artists, and creative businesses at very different stages.

Some had remarkable products but struggled to communicate their value.

Others had beautiful branding but lacked the internal clarity to sustain it.

The businesses that truly moved me had something else.

They felt coherent.

Their values were reflected in the way they hired.

The products reflected the vision.

The customer experience reflected the same care as the communication.

The leadership reinforced the culture.

Nothing felt disconnected, and that, people noticed.

Not because someone told them to, they did not have to.

Coherence is something we feel long before we consciously recognise it.

I think that's why some places immediately feel trustworthy.

Why certain brands become memorable.

Why we return to particular cafés, hotels, books, conversations, and people.

Something belongs together.

My work has less to do with making businesses look more desirable.

And more so about making everything to do with helping them become clearer expressions of who they already are.

The branding comes later.

The campaigns come later.

The photography comes later.

Desirability isn't something we add.

It's something that emerges when vision, values, people, products, and experiences begin telling the same story.

To me, beauty is what coherence feels like.

These days, I don’t ask:

"How do we make this more desirable?"

Instead I take it a step deeper,

"What would make this feel more true?"
